South Herts DAB is a collaboration between south Hertfordshire's two Ofcom-licensed community radio stations - Mix 92.6 and Vibe 107.6. Supported by Niocast Digital and Chris Hurst, South Herts DAB has been formed to apply to Ofcom to operate the new digital radio multiplex in the south of the county. Mix 92.6 is the Ofcom-licensed not-for-profit community radio station based in St Albans and serving Hertfordshire. Their mission is to enhance and connect the lives of people living and working in the area. Mix 92.6 features music from today and great hits from the 80s onwards. Their daytime content involves people, charities, and businesses from across the area, and their evening and weekend output includes shows aimed at parents, local environmental coverage, live sports commentary, local bands and artists and local politics.
Vibe 107.6 is the Ofcom-licensed not-for-profit community radio station based in Watford and broadcasting to and run by the local people of Watford and South West Hertfordshire. Launched in August 2011, the station's output is a mix of feel good contemporary hits with a mixture of old skool classics including the very popular Vibe Rewind show. The station focuses on entertaining local people with music, engaging local content and has a reputation for training young people in broadcasting.
Niocast Digital has been operating the small-scale DAB multiplex in Manchester for nearly eight years. Niocast is also a stakeholder in eight small-scale licence awards in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Liverpool, Preston, Warrington, Cheshire, Nottingham and Wolverhampton. Having also run successful trials in Dublin & Cork, Niocast is one of the most experienced operators of small-scale DAB in the UK.
Chris Hurst operates successful, locally-focused radio stations in Cheshire, regional music genre stations in Manchester and Liverpool, a local multiplex across NE Wales and West Cheshire and the small scale DAB multiplexes in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Wolverhampton. Additionally having successfully won the licences he is in the launch phase of small scale DAB multiplexes in Liverpool, Nottingham, Preston, Warrington and Cheshire East.
